Engineering Apprenticeship Level 2 at Isle of Wight College

Course description

This course is for anyone seeking employment in the field of Mechanical, Aerospace or Marine Engineering. You must choose a pathway and this is what you will towards during your qualification. The course includes both theory and practical skills which are put into practice in the workplace.

Course content

The Apprenticeship Framework in Engineering will give you the skills and knowledge that you will need to build a career within Mechanical, Aerospace or Marine Engineering.

The Intermediate Apprenticeship Framework includes the following:

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations
  • Level 1 Functional Skills in Numeracy and Literacy
  • ERR (Employment Rights and Responsibilities)
  • PLTS (Personal Learning and Thinking Skills)

Entry requirements

C and above in Maths and English or equivalent or ability to gain Level 1 Functional Skills.


You will attend The Isle of Wight College or one of our specialist partner centres on a 1 day release one day per week for the underpinning knowledge and some practical input. You will also be assessed and reviewed approx every 4-6 weeks in the workplace by a member of our team.

Future opportunities

Once you complete this qualification you may be able to progress to an Advanced Apprenticeship or move into full time employment.

Many employers will tend to keep their Apprentices on after they complete their Apprenticeship but permanent employment is not guaranteed after learners complete their apprenticeship.
