Law A-Level at St Mark's West Essex Catholic School
This course is intended for those who wish to develop knowledge , understanding and critical awareness of the English legal system and elements of substantive law. Our legal system is a complex and ever evolving one and the field of law constantly adapts to take account of changes in technology, moral and ethical dilemmas, medical developments and scientific discoveries.
During the course you will study various aspects of the English legal system, including Criminal and civil court procedure; alternative disputes resolution; police powers; principles of sentencing; the judicial and legal profession; legal aid services; the law making processes; the doctrine of precedent; European Law; and law reform.
This course provides a good foundation for those students who may wish to study Law at university, as well as supporting students who wish to study for a degree in social sciences – such as Criminology. In addition it is a useful complement at other courses of study such as Business, Economics and Politics.
