Art and Design Level 1 Diploma at New College Durham

Course description

You will gain a range of skills and knowledge from studying a broad spectrum of art and design principles. These include areas such as drawing, painting, photography, fine art, working in a variety of medias and contextual research skills.

Course content

You will explore a number of art and design processes: drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking and mixed media work.  These 2 and 3 dimensional processes will be incorporated into a number of assignments throughout the course, and you will receive expert tuition on each of these processes whilst studying. 

The course will enable you to gain a range of skills and knowledge of these different proccesses, as well as teaching you the fundamentals of art and design. The course also incorporates functional skills and a PSD qualification, which is designed to equip you with the basic skills required to gain a job. There will be regular group and individual feedback throughout an assignment. More formal assessments take place at the end of each unit followed by tutorials.

Entry requirements

You will need GCSEs at grades D-G. You will also be interviewed and are required to bring a portfolio of work.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course will provide you with a comprehensive portfolio of work which will enable you to gain entry qualifications for a Level 2 course or seek employment in related industry occupations.

Product, clothing or related designer Product, clothing and related designers plan, direct and undertake the creation of designs for new industrial and commercial products, clothing and related fashion accessories, costumes and wigs, and for building interiors and stage sets.
