Biology AS Level at Grantham College

Course description

Courses are taught by subject specialists, some of whom are experienced examiners for their subjects. This gives them an insight into how to assess students responses with a view to maximising student potential.

Course content

Year one: There are 3 units 1. Biology and Disease 2. The Variety of Living Organisms

Year two: There are 3 units 1. Populations and Environment 2. Control in Cells and in Organisms

Entry requirements

GCSE (Grade B or above) in Science (Double Award) or Biology. Other subjects may be considered depending on circumstances. Students must also have GCSE Maths at Grade C or above. There is an initial test to determine your readiness to begin this course. You should seek guidance before enrolment.

Assessment

Year one: 1. Students will sit two 1.5 hour examinations Year two: 1. Students will sit three 2 hour examinations

Financial information

Full Time Further Education courses are free for those who are under 19 on 31 August of the year they start their course.  Exam resit fees may apply if and when applicable.

Future opportunities

Students may progress to further and higher education in biology, medicine, sports and other related sciences
