Further Mathematics AS/A2 Level at Nottingham Academy

Course description

The course will be in the interest of students with a passion for
maths already studying mathematics A level. It will also go
hand in hand for students studying physics A level.

Course content


There are three modules:

– Further Mathematics 1: An extension on the Core Maths
studies in A level, will involve complex numbers
and matrices.


– Mechanics 1: This involves a lot of physics and applying
mathematics to real life.
– Statistics 1/2: Further look into statistics, studying
standard deviation.

Units covered at AS
– Further Pure Mathematics 1.
– Statistics.
– Mechanics.

 

Entry requirements

Grade B or above in mathematics GCSE.

Assessment

You will be assessed after every topic you have studied. This is
so you know your own progress and where you can improve.
You will also be assessed on homework which will be made
up of examination questions. There is an end of course
examination.

Future opportunities

Studying mathematics or physics at university. Most
universities now ask for a further mathematics qualification if
you are applying to study mathematics.
