Spanish AS/A Level at Boston High School
The course will enable students to develop their linguistic skills alongside their understanding of the culture and society of the coun‐ tries where Spanish is spoken.
Students will study technological and social change. They will study highlights of Hispanic artistic culture, including a focus on Spanish regional identity and the cultural heritage of past civilisations. They will learn about aspects of the diverse political land‐ scape of the Hispanic world.
Students will explore the influence of the past on present‐day Spanish‐speaking communities. Throughout their studies, they will learn the language in the context of Spanish‐speaking countries and the issues and influences which have shaped them. Students will study texts and film and will have the opportunity to carry out independent research on an area of their choice.

- Grade B or above in GCSE Spanish
- To have an interest in, and enthusiasm for, language learning and be willing to communi‐ cate in the foreign language.
- To have the desire to develop your knowledge of Spanish culture, art and politics and you must be willing to listen to Spanish media daily

Universities welcome this subject as it is well known to prove useful for a wide range of careers, from law to finance. It is also a respected academic complement for those wanting to do medicine or vet science.
Careers where language skills are the primary focus are those of interpreter (spoken word), translator (written word) and teacher/ lecturer, specifically in secondary education or above, and teaching English as a second language in the UK or abroad.
Alternative career options include the travel industry, working overseas or in the UK, retail buying, logistics and distribution, where goods or equipment are moved across international borders. The government's diplomatic service is often a target for modern languages students.
