English Literature at Drayton Manor High School

Course description

The course is predominantly based on the study of the works of selected novelists, poets and dramatists writing during the last six centuries. The course offers the opportunity to explore a wide range of challenging texts, both in discussion and in writing, and considerable emphasis is put on students developing their own ideas about the books studied Students are expected to explore connections between texts as well as learn about their social, cultural and historical contexts.

Future opportunities

You could take this course with other advanced level courses or equivalent to prepare for higher education in English studies or more general higher education courses. With further training, you could go into a job related to English Literature such as a Teacher, Journalist, Author or Poet. The course will also help you develop the skills, understanding and knowledge that many employers across lots of industries are looking for.
