Film Studies AS & A Level at John Leggott Sixth Form College

Course description

You will develop your knowledge of British, American and World cinema and learn how to analyse films by micro aspects such as sound and macro aspects such as narrative. You will also have the opportunity to generate ideas for you own films.

Course content

AS course: 1st Year

  • Unit 1 - Exploring Film Form (coursework)
  • Unit 2 - British and American Film

A2 course: 2nd Year

  • Unit 3 - Film Research and Creative Projects (coursework)
  • Unit 4 - Varieties of Film Experience: Issues and Debates

Entry requirements

GCSE English at grade C or above is preferred and an interest in film and cinema. GCSE average 4.0 or above including 5 C grades.

Future opportunities

Careers in the film industry are very competitive, but A Level Film is a good base for Higher Education courses in film and media studies. Lots of previous students are now involved in film and media production.
