Sport and Physical Activity OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma Level 3 at Alder Grange Community and Technology School

Course description

This course will use a combination of assessment styles to give students the confidence they can apply their knowledge to succeed in the workplace – and have the study skills to continue learning on higher education courses and throughout their career.

This range of vocational assessments – both practical and written– mean students can showcase their learning and achievements to best effect when they take their next step, whether that’s supporting applications to higher education courses or potential employers.

  • Body systems and the effects of physical activity (90GLH)
  • Sports coaching and activity leadership (90GLH)
  • Sports organisation and development (60GLH)
  • Working safely in sport, exercise, health and leisure (90GLH)
  • Physical activity for specific groups (30GLH)
  • Performance analysis in sport and exercise (60GLH)
  • Organisation of sports events (60GLH)
  • Sports injuries and rehabilitation (60GLH)
  • Practical skills in sport and physical activities (60GLH)
  • Optional units- to total 120 GLH

Entry requirements

C or 5 in PE or Science.

Assessment

Body systems and the effects of physical activity (90GLH)

  • A written paper set and marked by OCR.
  • 1 hour 30 minutes
  • 70 marks
  • Comprising of multiple choice, short answer questions and questions requiring more extended responses.

Sports coaching and activity leadership (90GLH)

  • Assignment based

Sports organisation and development (60GLH)

  • 1 hour written paper set and marked by OCR
  • 61 marks
  • Comprising of multiple choice, short answer questions and questions requiring more extended responses.

Working safely in sport, exercise, health and leisure (90GLH)

  • A written paper set and marked by OCR.
  • 1 hour 30 minutes
  • 70 marks
  • Comprising of multiple choice, short answer questions and questions requiring more extended responses.

The following units are assignment based

  • Physical activity for specific groups (30GLH)
  • Performance analysis in sport and exercise (60GLH)
  • Organisation of sports events (60GLH)

    • Alder Grange Sixth Form (ag6) opened as a new Sixth Form in 2010. Since then we have recruited students from across Rossendale and beyond on to a range of both A Level and BTEC level 3 courses. We have been delighted that our results have improved year on year and that Alder Grangers have successfully moved on from Sixth Form to University or the world of work in areas ranging from Music Production and Zoology to Teaching and Engineering. We have developed a strong sense of community and a warm, caring and supportive ethos.
