Creative Digital Media Production BTEC Level 3 at Wyke Sixth Form College
This course is for any student with an interest in the Media and/or thoughts of following a Higher Education course in Media / Film / Communications / Journalism / Cultural Studies/ Fashion/ Marketing / Business.
There are 3 mandatory units, 1 internal and 2 external, plus one optional unit within this qualification:
- Media Representations
- Pre-Production Portfolio
- Responding to a commission
- Film production (fiction)
The Extended Certificate in Creative Digital Media Production is an exciting and practical course which offers a number of transferable skills in preparation for employment or further educational study in areas such as; Television and Film, Radio, Sound Recording, Print-Based Media, Interactive Media and Games Development. This course is aimed to provide learners with the strongest opportunity for employment and provide skills that can be transferable in all areas of media including film photography and sound.
On screen exam (external): Unit 1 media representations. A range of media from different sectors will be explored, such as music videos, short film extracts, animation, news programmes, websites, digital games and print adverts in order to explore how meaning, messages and values are constructed through formal and stylistic elements.
Internal assessment: Unit 4 Pre-Production portfolio. This unit will enable you to develop your understanding of the essential pre-production work that takes place as part of a creative media production. This unit will give you transferable skills to use when working in the media industry.
Task (external): Unit 8 Responding to a commission. You will understand how to respond to a commission brief with ideas based on the required content, style, audience, purpose and approach proposed by the client. You will also develop your ability to respond to briefs and understand the commissioning process, which is an essential aspect of successful, commercial media production.
Optional: Unit 10 Film production This unit will focus on the process of producing a short narrative film or film extract that uses generic conventions. You will prepare for a film production by creating and gathering the materials and preparing the cast and crew. This unit will develop editing skills and techniques ready for the work place in the media industry.
