Animal Care Apprenticeship Level 3 Advanced at Wiltshire College

Course description

This apprenticeship is aimed at those who can gain a suitable role in the animal care sector and are able to work towards, or in, a supervisory or management role. This qualification will demonstrate and develop your skills in planning and coordinating the care of animals and the leadership of staff in the workplace.

Course content

During your apprenticeship you will be required to study core mandatory units as well as optional units depending on which pathway best suits your job:

Core Units:

  • Animal accommodation
  • Animal handling
  • Feeding and health care
  • Health and safety

Specialist Units:


  • Animal discipline and training
  • Animal training
  • Animal training in the audiovisual industries
  • Animal welfare
  • Boarding
  • Dog / Animal wardens
  • Dog grooming
  • Pet care and retail
  • Zoos

Entry requirements

Minimum Level 1 or GCSE grade D in Maths and English. All applicants will be required to pass initial assessments in Maths and English. 


Apprenticeships are designed with the help of employers, so they offer a structured programme that takes you through the skills you need to do a job well. Each apprenticeship involves a structured programme of training leading to a recognised qualification, and they are available at different levels, letting you choose the speed you wish to learn at.
