Course description

You will study the following modules: • Investigating Travel & Tourism • The UK as a destination • Tourist Destinations • The Business of Travel & Tourism • Customer Service • Marketing Travel & Tourism Products and Services • Tour Operations • E-biz for airlines • UK Visitor Attractions • Incoming & Domestic Tourism • Holiday Representatives • The Cruise Sector • Hospitality Operations • Retail Travel Operations • Passenger Transport • Rural Tourism • Preparing for Employment • Health & Safety in aviation • Team Leadership • Handling air passengers • Front Office Operations The programme includes taught classes, visits to employers and tourist attractions, residential study visits, organising displays and group activities. The Cabin Crew unit includes the role of air cabin crew on board an aircraft and airline emergency procedures.

Course content

This course includes a Study Programme to provide learners with a coherent and enriching curriculum which will provide them with the academic, social and employability skills to progress to further or higher education or employment. The content of the study programme is designed to broaden the learner experience beyond the main qualification of study. The key theme of Study Programmes at Level 3 will be the development of personal, social and enterprise skills to enable progression to higher levels of study or employment. As well as your core qualification you will study GCSE or Functional Skills in English or Maths plus English and maths development as part of the core qualification. Learners will also undertake personal progress planning and pastoral education. Plus additional personal development activity which will include work experience and projects.

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade A* - C or equivalent including C or above in English Language.

Assessment

By completing programme work, projects and case studies. There are no examinations on the BTEC 90 Credit Diploma.

Future opportunities

Progress to higher level travel & tourism programmes such as the L3 Diploma in Travel & Tourism and employment in the travel and tourism industry, e.g. travel agents, tour operators, airlines.
