Physics at Cottingham High School

Course description

The syllabus is designed to attract students and give them a good basis for future decisions by carefully balancing technological and applied approaches to physics in use. Students will spend most of their time in lessons actively participating in practical work, computer based activities or developing specific skills not passively taking notes or copying from sheets. This ethos is critically important to the course and central to our departmental approach to teaching and learning.

The AS course offers a broad vision of physics as it is today. Providing you with an introduction to physics and its uses, it prepares the way for further study and focuses on the wide range of future careers for which physics is valuable.

The A2 course deepens understanding of crucial ideas, giving you a wide-ranging and fundamental view of the nature of matter and the Universe.

Teaching and assessment are designed to give you opportunities to pursue and develop your own interests and examines your understanding of physics.
