Music Practitioner - Music Performance Level 3 Diploma and Extended Diploma at Blackburn College
This Level 3 Diploma & Extended Diploma in Music Performance aims to provide a firm foundation in many areas of Music Performance including an insight into the business skills needed to build a successful career. The course also encourages personal development and expression through a range of challenging personal and group projects.
The course is made up of mandatory and optional units from a broad range of professional and subject - specific topics. Mandatory units include:
- Aural Perception Skills
- Major Music Project
- Music and Society
- The Sound and Music Industry
Learners also study optional units which include:
- Arranging & Composing Music
- Music Events Management
- Improvising Music
- Live Music Workshop
- Marketing & Promotion in the Industry
- Solo Music Performance Skills
- Working & Developing as a Musical Ensemble
- Singing Techniques and Performance
Students should have at least a BTEC Level 2 Merit/Distinction Grade portfolio or at least four GCSEs at Grades A*-C (including English). Equivalent qualifications will be considered. You will also have to demonstrate a suitable level of competency in playing one or more musical instruments. Entry criteria may be waived for mature students who can demonstrate ability to study at this level.
The emphasis of assessments on the course is developing you as a music specialist with a range of skills and approaches to music recording, live performance support, and broader technical and organisational skills that are needed in the real world. There are no formal examinations.
On completion of this qualification you will be able to move onto one of the many Higher Education Courses that are now available in this field or take the first steps in a Music Career.
