Health and Social Care National Extended Diploma Level 3 at Sunderland College
This course is for learners who want to progress into a career in health care, social care, or community work. The course is designed to give you the transferable knowledge and skills to progress to higher education or employment.
You’ll study the underlying principles of working in the care sector along with specialist units which will cover topics related to the application of psychology, sociology and science to health and social care practice. The qualification also offers learners the opportunity to access work experience and develop the necessary skills to compile a professional development portfolio.
You’ll need to have at least five C grades at GCSE including English Language and Mathematics. You must also have successfully achieved the first year of the diploma. You’ll also need to complete a police clearance check, a health check, have two references, and pass an interview with a member of the Health and Care team if you are joining the course in year 2. DBS clearance required.
The course is mainly taught through classroom learning and directed study. You will be assessed through course work. You will also take part in work placements in the Health and Social Care industry as part of the course.
After successfully completing the course you could progress to Higher Education courses related to Social Sciences, Health and Social Care, or Child Care. You could also progress to a Higher Apprenticeship programme in Health and Social Care or some health and social care roles, for example direct care or administrative roles within the sector.
