Course description

Do you want to know more about the Travel and Tourism industry? Do you want to find out what this industry is all about? Then come and join us at the City of Westminster College on our BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Travel and Tourism course.

You’ve all been customers and know that “the customer is always right” – well find out differently when you start to explore Customer Service. Have you ever wanted to know how an organisation sells its products and services? You will when you study Marketing.

Last, but not least, you will have to use all the knowledge that you have gained and develop good teamwork because you and the group will have to plan and take part in a residential. The course will also include a number of field trips.

Outline of skills and knowledge

Over the year you will study the following units plus several more:

  • Introduction to the Travel and Tourism Industry
  • Introduction to UK Tourist Destinations
  • Introduction to Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
  • Introduction to Marketing in Travel and Tourism
  • Introduction to European tourist Destinations
  • Travel and Tourism Study Visit

Entry requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D or above or a full level 1 qualfication and a suitable reference from a previous tutor.

Assessment

You will be expected to complete coursework in order to gain the qualification. You will be finding out about how the Travel and Tourism industry is made up and how it functions. Most of the units are assessed internally by means of assignments, which are based on practical "hands on" tasks taught in the context of real jobs and careers in the Travel sector. This gives you the chance to explore the opportunities offered in that sector, and to acquire appropriate vocational skills. All of the assignments are externally moderated by Edexcel and an overall grade of a Pass will be awarded upon completion of the course.

Future opportunities

This course could lead you into employment, or possibly onto the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Travel and Tourism course if you get a high overall grade, such as a Merit or a Distinction.
