Health & Social Care (Double Award) at St Peter's Catholic School and Specialist Science College

Course description

Health & Social Care can be studies as either a single GCE or as a double award.  The course is comprised of both coursework and examination, with coursework accounting for 66.6% of the overall grade, within both the single and the double award.  As part of AS course students are required to organise and attend a two hour weekly placement, within a health and social care setting.  This forms part of the coursework completed for the AS qualification.

Unit 4: Social Aspects of Health & Well-being (exam)

Unit 6: Public Health (coursework)

Unit 9: ( coursework.)

A2 units: Double Award (units 1-9 will be completed in addition to the following units)

Unit 10 (coursework)

Unit 11 (coursework)

Unit 12 (exam)

Entry requirements

Grades C in GCSE English Language and Maths are required for entry onto the Health & Social Care course.  Due to the large amount of coursework within this subject, excellent organisation skills and an ability and natural enthusiasm for working independently are also essential entry requirements.


AS & A2 examinations are taken in May/June of the academic year, whilst coursework deadlines are spread throughout the academic year.
