Year 12

Unit 1 Exploration of Drama and Theatre

An extended piece of teacher assessed coursework exploring the context and production of two plays: Aristophanes: The Birds

Steven Berkoff: Metamorphosis (after Kafka)

Unit 2 Theatre text in performance

A performance to a visiting examiner consisting of a

  • a group performance
  • a monologue


Year 13

Unit 3 Exploration of Dramatic Performance

A teacher assessed devised piece involving all members of the class. Although the performance is assessed, there bulk of the assessment is based on the research and development of the piece.

Students may offer design or costume elements if they wish.


Unit 4 - A written exam

Section A and B require understanding of the set text, Lysistrata (Aristophanes).

Section A focuses on rehearsal techniques, Section B on how the play may be interpreted for the 21st century audience.

Section C requires students to see a live performance of a play by Shakespeare and comment on the interpretation and production.
