Performing Arts BTEC Level 2 Diploma at Strode College

Course description

On this broad based and practical one year course you will work on a range of projects to develop skills in drama, dance and technical theatre. All practical work is backed up with the essential theory.

There will be opportunities to perform both student devised and professionally created work in our Studio Theatre and Strode Theatre.

Units currently offered include: Production Project/Performing Arts Business; Devising Plays; Musical Theatre; Scripted Plays and Understanding Drama.

The course culminates with a performance for the public and you will be involved in all aspects of this final production including the budget, marketing, prop making, lighting, sound, stage management and performance.

Theatre visits are organised to Strode Theatre and other venues. Our students work as part of a theatre company, sometimes with the Level 3 Extended Diploma students, to put on a range of performances in our studio theatres and Strode Theatre.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE grades E or above or equivalent, such as NVQ Level 1 plus a GCSE grade E or above. English Language GCSE grade D – E is recommended. Enthusiasm, commitment and evidence of your current ability and future potential in the performing arts are required. You will be expected to demonstrate your interest in the performing arts at your interview. Previous experience in drama or dance is desirable.

Assessment

This is an assignment based course which is continually assessed. Assignments involve both practical and written work. Pearson Exam Board.

Financial information

Suitable rehearsal clothing such as T-shirts leggings/tracksuit trousers.

Future opportunities

Successful completion of this course alongside at least 1 GCSE A*- C, could lead to progression to a range of courses. This course has an excellent record of students progressing to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts.
