ICT A Level (Block E) at Walton High School
Aimed at students with a keen interest in IT and who wish to develop a broad portfolio of IT within a real world context, and particularly those students seeking a technical IT qualification in their future career.
This is a 2 year, vocational course. It comprises of 5 units of study, 2 of which are mandatory. The mandatory units will be examined externally through written papers. The course follows a practical leaning and employer involvement during the course of delivery will be a feature.
It is likely that the majority of remaining / optional units will be internally assessed and externally moderated. The course lays emphasis upon the practical application of IT skills within a real life context.
Learners will be able to develop a core knowledge, skills and understanding of the IT sector and develop further skills by completing a range of units through a choice of these specialist pathways*:
- IT Infrastructure Technician
- Emerging Digital Technology Practitioner
- Application Developer
- Data Analyst
*The centre will decide which pathway is followed.
Learners will take five units, made up of two mandatory and three optional units. They will choose to study one of four specialist pathways depending on the career they wish to pursue. All learners will study the following two mandatory units; Fundamentals of IT and Global information.
These units provide learners with an insight into the real world of IT, as they investigate the pace of technological change, IT infrastructure, and the flow of information on a global scale, as well as the important legal and security considerations.
5 GCSEs Grades A*- C (Including English Language and Maths Grade 5)
This qualification is designed to give learners a range of specialist knowledge and transferable skills in the context of applied IT, providing them with the opportunity to enter an apprenticeship, move directly move directly into employment, or progress to a related Higher Education (HE) course.
Please select one subject per option block (A, B, C, D and E - listed in Course Title) to ensure there is no clash on your timetable.
By and large most students will follow 3 academic A Levels plus will have the opportunity to add to this with the Extended Project and our Enrichment Programme.
A few students may be able to follow a 4th A Level with advice from our Sixth Form Management team.
