Hospitality Supervision and Leadership Diploma (NVQ) Level 3 at New College Nottingham

Course description

This level will suit you if you have or currently work in the hospitality industry. Ideally you will have a fair amount of experience, and you might already supervise others or manage resources.

This course will allow you to progress and develop your skills in this area, and may even enable you to move into a management role within the sector.

You may be assessed either in your current role or whilst working in our award-winning Adams Restaurant and Brasserie.

Building on your skills, this course will allow you to take the lead and develop productive working relationships with colleagues from a managerial point of view. 

Careers available to you once finishing the course include: food and beverage supervisor, restaurant supervisor, banqueting supervisor, events and conference co-ordinator and much more.

Course content

The course has a variety of units to progress your skills into management.
 
ncn works in partnership with Capital FM Arena, which will offer real working opportunities in areas such as: catering, crewing, event set-up, event management and front of house hospitality. As part of the course you may even get to manage a full scale event at the Arena.

Units you will study include:

- Lead a team to improve customer service
- Develop productive working relationships with colleagues
- Provide leadership for your team
- Contribute to the control of resources
- Maintain the health, hygiene, safety and security of the working environment.
- You will also choose a number of optional units from a wide range that includes:
- Supervise reception services
- Provide learning opportunities for colleagues
- Contribute to the development of a wine list
- Contribute to promoting hospitality services and products.

In the last two years our catering and hospitality students have met and learnt from: Jamie Oliver, Marco Pierre White and Sat Bains.

Entry requirements

You must have one of the following:

Level 2 Professional Cookery Diploma
Level 2 Food & Beverage Service at Merit
Level 2 Professional Cookery (NVQ) Diploma at Merit

Plus:

GCSE English or maths at grade A*-C or equivalent. Functional Skills may be accepted in place of GCSE maths and/or English.

If you are over 19 but have industry experience and do not have the necessary qualifications you are welcome to apply and will be considered for interview.

Assessment

You will be assessed through practical tests and written assignments.
