AQA Advanced GCE in Geography B

Course content

 

Units to be covered at AS and A2:

 

AS Unit 1

Rivers, Floods and Management

Population Change

Cold Environments/Health Issues

 

Unit 2

Geographical Skills – includes investigative, cartographic, graphical, ICT and statistical

 

A2 Unit 3

Contemporary Geographical Issues

Weather and Climate associated hazards

 

Unit 4

Contemporary Conflict and Challenges.

Fieldwork investigation – this tests a range of geographical skills and tests the students understanding of their fieldwork investigation.

Entry requirements

 

Normally a Grade C or above at GCSE.  (However, we have had some students in the past who did not do Geography at GCSE but were successful at Advanced Level.  If in doubt come and talk to us.)  Students will need to complete a fieldwork study, which will involve a residential trip.  The Department are hoping to take Advanced Level students on a fieldwork study of Iceland.  A Grade B in English and Maths at GCSE is also a necessary requirement for this course.

Assessment

 

This is by examination.  There is no fieldwork write up to do.
