Family Care Skills AIM Awards Extended Certificate in Skills for Employment and Further Learning at Lancaster and Morecambe College

Course description

This course will develop your knowledge of working in health and social care and children’s settings and prepare you for progression to Level 2 study in the ‘Care’ profession of your choice. You will develop a range of skills and techniques, knowledge in providing care and a good understanding of the principles of care. You will develop interpersonal skills essential for working successfully with children, young people and adults.

Course content

You will study:

• Craft Activities with Children and Young People

• The Principles of Listening to Children

• The Foundations of Trust in Families

• Understanding Physical Disabilities

• Providing Personal Care in Care Settings

• The Principles of Care, Organisational Policies and the Role of the Care workers

Entry requirements

2 GCSEs at grade D or above or Children, Young People, Health and Care Level 1 with tutor recommendation. Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

Assessment

This course is continuously assessed using a range of methods including course work and assignments building a Portfolio of work.

Financial information

There will be the cost of educational visits which will be organised for you during the course. This means you will need to pay £20 when you enrol.

When working with children or in a care setting, you will need to wear the uniform. This too will be paid for when you enrol - approximate cost:

• Polo shirt - £11.00

• Sweatshirt - £14.00 (optional)

• Fleece jacket - £19.00 (optional) 

Future opportunities

On passing this course and with tutor recommendation, you will be able to progress within college onto the BTEC First Diploma in Children’s Care, Learning and Development (Level 2) or the BTEC First in Health and Social Care (Level 2).

 

Further information

You will be required to undertake some home study on this course. 

On completion of this course you will get the nationally recognised Level 1/2 AIM Award Extended Certificate in Skills for Employment and Further Learning.
