Hairdressing Advanced Apprenticeship Level 3 at City College Plymouth

Course description

Our Hairdressing Advanced Apprenticeship course is for those who have completed a level 2 course and are looking to build on the skills already gained. With this course there are many opportunities to take part in enrichment activities such as a visit to Salon International in London, a trip to Europe or even America to the Wella Studios, photographic shoots, supporting fashion shows and much, much more! 

Course content

Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing - ten units, of which four are mandatory.

For example:

  • consultation services
  • monitoring health and safety in the salon
  • creative cutting and styling
  • complex hair colouring 
  • colour correction
  • creatively dressing long hair
  • Functional skills - maths level 2 and English level 2 are also studied
  • Employment rights and responsibilities
  • Personal learning and thinking skills.

Entry requirements

Usually, progression is from a level 2 qualification in hairdressing, or on completion of an Intermediate Apprenticeship programme. An initial assessment is required to identify your entry level. 


Direct observation of performance - written assignments and unit test papers and online external tests. Functional skills will be addressed along with personal learning and thinking skills and employment rights and responsibilities. 

Future opportunities

On successful completion you may progress to a wide range of careers in the hair and beauty industry.
