Course description

Are you passionate about styling hair and creating looks that people love? Could you see yourself working professionally in a salon, and perhaps even running your own business one day? If you’d like to start a career in the hair industry, then this Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing is the perfect place to begin. You’ll learn everything you need to know about working in a salon and cutting hair, including how to consult correctly with clients, how to effectively shampoo and condition the hair and scalp, and how to cut women’s hair. You’ll study units such as colouring and lightening hair, and perming and neutralising. As part of the diploma, you’ll also look at promoting products and services to clients in the salon, and will get the chance to explore the art of hairdressing. This is a highly practical qualification, and along with a choice of optional units, it will give you the skills and knowledge you need to work in this exciting industry.

Entry requirements

If you’d like to enrol on this Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing, you’ll need to have relevant GCSE grades and a strong desire to work in the hair and beauty industries. You should also have good listening and communication skills, a natural artistic flair, and a positive attitude to working – both independently and as part of a team. Assessment

As this course is both practical and theory-based, you’ll complete continual assessment over the course of the year including written tests, assignments and practical observations.

You’ll then be able to develop your expertise further and continue onto one of a number of different roles in the hair and beauty industry, working as a stylist in a salon, a mobile hairdresser, a trainer or educator, or even the owner of your own salon.       Northenden is a suburb of south Manchester. There are shops, a supermarket, restaurants and takeaways 15 minutes’ walk from the campus in central Northenden. There are also a small supermarket and shops closer to the campus. Northenden is surrounded by green space. The campus is minutes away from Gib Lane Wood and Wythenshawe Park which includes a community farm. It is also close to the Mersey Valley nature reserve; a riverside walk through miles of countryside and parkland.
