If so, Business Studies may just be the course you're looking for.
The world of business is all around us, whether it is the issues surrounding the 'credit crunch' or the rising prices of petrol. You will find Business Studies to be a challenging, relevant and rewarding subject, which will teach you the day-to-day practices of businesses, along with the study of the strategies they use to succeed in an increasingly competitive market.
Business Studies is a problem-solving subject - the focus of the course is solving business problems and making business decisions.


Course content

In the first year, you will be introduced to how businesses are started and how they work. We will look at realworld business news and case studies to develop your understanding of business problems and issues. In addition, you will explore business enterprise and discover how to manage a small business.

We will look at several areas of business, including marketing, operations management and accounting/finance. In the second year, we will consider larger businesses and the strategies they use to succeed. We will study how political, legal, social and technological issues affect businesses and there will be lots of opportunities to explore your interests from the first year in more detail.

Entry requirements

You will need to meet the standard college entry criteria for AS/A2 courses.

Future opportunities

Business Studies will allow you to go to university to study a wide range of subjects. Careers in finance, accounting, marketing and other 'business related' areas are possibilities for students who have studied this subject.

Further information

Business Studies students will enjoy a range of trips and visits to a variety of businesses in the UK to see business in action. The College will be active in strengthening students' appreciation of enterprise and understanding about being an entrepreneur, working closely with Lowestoft College and the Chamber of Commerce.

In addition, you will be able to attend business conferences and have the opportunity to take part in business competitions.
