Equine Studies Horse Care - Level 2 at Eccles Sixth Form College

Course description

This course is an excellent foundation for a career in the equine industry. Students need to have a genuine interest in horses, with some practical knowledge of horse care preferable. Learning takes place at college and the equestrian unit at Ryders Farm in Kearsley

Course content

You wil cover a variety of topics such as:  Riding and equitiation: Horse behaviour and welfare: The equine industry: Equine nutrition: Stable yard management: Equine anatomy and physiology: Animal biology

Work experience is an essential element of the course and all students will complete work experience as part of their course. Students have previously completed their placements at prestigious equestrian yards and in Terrou France

Entry requirements

4 Ds/3s at GCSE

Assessment

The course is assessed by written assignments

Financial information

Full time courses are free to 16-18 year olds who are EU citizens

Future opportunities

If you study at advanced level you could go on to study a related subject at university such as equine science, behaviour or therapy. Some students go directly into employment, working in commercial stables, stud farms and equine rehabilitation centres. Others have taken further study in the racing industry.
