Computing Level 2 at Isle of Wight College
The BTEC First in Information Technology is made up of eleven modules. Each student will cover four core modules, four mandatory modules and three optional modules (selected by the coordinators). The modules offer a range of skills required within the computing sector and are aimed to develop specialist as well as common knowledge including ‘Creating Computer Graphics’ and understanding ‘Technology Systems’. The BTEC First provides a good basis to go into a more advanced work-related qualification.
The core/mandatory modules, to be studied by ALL learners, are set currently to be:Core Modules Mandatory Modules 1: The Online World 12: Software Development 2: Technology Systems 17: Multimedia Products 3: A Digital Portfolio 18: Computational Thinking 4: Computing in the Workplace 24: Software Systems Development
The optional modules, to be studied by ALL learners, and pre-selected by the coordinators are currently to be:
- 6 : Creating Digital Graphics
- 8 : Mobile Apps Development
- 13 : Website Development
You will need 4 GCSEs to enter the course, at least 2 at Grade C and 2 at Grade D.
One of the C grades must be in English or Maths.
Non-GCSE equivalent level 2 courses will not be considered as entry qualifications.
All units are assessed by assignment and two externally assessed examinations to be taken by all students.
The BTEC First in Information and Creative Technology Diploma prepares you for employment and provides a good grounding to go onto a more advanced course such as:
- BTEC National Award (Level 3)
- BTEC National Diploma (Level 3)
Progression to other qualifications will require that the learner achieve the First Diploma to a standard set by the area being applied for usually a final grade at Distinction.
