Health & Social Care A Level at Franklin College
Year 1 This course will appeal to you if you have an interest in working within the health, social care, early years or teaching professions. This course is available as a single or a double award. In year one the single award (one A Level equivalent) comprises of two units and the double award (two A Level equivalent) comprises of four units. You will be expected to take part in a work experience placement to see how the theory is put into practice. Teaching is through a variety of methods such as role-play, group work, presentations and individual assignments. You will study some or all of the following areas; promoting quality care and communication, promoting good health, child development and clients with disabilities. Year 2 Throughout your second year you will study further units to help you develop self-confidence, effective communication, time management, organisational and research skills, all of which can be related to any area of employment. You will study some or all of the following areas; provision of health, social care and childrenï¿½s services, working in health and social care, understanding human behaviour and care for older individuals.
Five GCSE grades A*-C or equivalent to include English Language. It is not essential to have already studied Level 2 Health and Social Care. An Enhanced DBS Disclosure is required which the college will fund.
60% Coursework 40% Examination
Former students have progressed on to highly competitive courses such as; nursing, midwifery, occupational therapy, audiology, radiography, health studies, social work, childhood studies, teaching and criminology. Some students prefer to move straight into employment opportunities within the health, social care and early years sectors.
