Course content


Unit 1: Peace & War: International Relations c.


This unit assesses the causes of the First World War, war plans and military strategy, the terms and impact of the Paris peace settlement, international diplomacy in the 1920's, the reasons for the outbreak of war in 1939 and the war in Asia.

Unit 2: Mid Tudor Crises


This unit focuses on the theme of a series of crises involving the extent and significance of political, religious, economic and social change during the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary and Elizabeth I.


Unit 3: Nazi Germany


This unit focuses on the nature of Nazi government, its impact on Germany and the extent of the social revolution it brought about; its racial aims and policies; the nature and extent of opposition to the regime.

Unit 4: Russia and its rulers 1855-1964

This unit focuses on the changing style of leadership in Russia. You will study the Tsarist Monarchy and the transition to Communist rule after the Russian Revolution in 1917
