Art and Design A-Level at Reading School

Course description

In year 12 and 13 candidates are able to work in many areas of Fine Art, such as those listed; they may explore overlapping areas and combinations of areas. Painting and drawing, mixed media, sculpture, land art, installation, printmaking, film, television, animation, video photography, lens-based and/or light-based media and new media.

Course content

At AS level candidates are introduced to a variety of experiences employing a range of media, processes and techniques appropriate to the chosen area of study: there are two units N Unit 1 – Coursework Portfolio which must include at least one extended project N Unit 2 – externally set assignment.

At A2 level candidates are required to build upon the knowledge, understanding and skills gained in AS with greater depth of study: There are two units of work.

Entry requirements

GCSE Grade B in Art expected.

Assessment

  • Unit 3 Personal Investigation supported by an extended essay of not more than 3000 words.
  • Unit 4 Externally set assignment.

All units are assessed equally at 50% each.
