History *FEES PAYABLE* at New Hall School

Course description

"Important abilities and qualities of mind are acquired through the study of History". (History Benchmarking Draft Report).

The aim in History is to stimulate a lively, interesting, and well-informed knowledge of the past, which is essential in coming to terms with the present and for providing a good preparation for life. History teaches that there are rarely clear cut or simple answers to questions and encourages considered, independent judgements.

Apart from being extremely enjoyable and enabling students to learn about the past, History also offers students the opportunity to acquire and improve on many of the key skills which have been identified as a priority by universities and employers. It helps students to develop independent thinking and to express their judgements clearly. This subject will suit those with lively, analytical minds, who are prepared to read widely and critically and can express themselves cogently on paper.
