Sport (BTEC Extended Certificate Single Award) at Roundhay School All through education from 4 to 18

Course description

The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Sport is a 360-guided-learning-hour (GLH) qualification that consists of four units of which 3 are mandatory and two are external. Equivalent in size to one A Level.

A broad basis of study for the sport sector. This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education when taken as part of a programme of study that includes other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A Levels.

Course content

Mandatory units – all three units must be taken:

1. Anatomy and Physiology

2. Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being

3. Profesional Development in the Sports Industry.

Optional units – one unit must be taken from:

4. Sports Leadership

5. Application of fitness testing

6. Sports Psychology

7. Practical Sports Performance

Entry requirements

General Entry Requirements

Students must achieve a minimum of 5 subjects at GCSE grades 4 or above - please see the prospectus for further subject specific entry requirements


Assessment is carried out by both internal assessment and external examination in the BTEC qualifications in this specification.
