Business Studies AS A2 at Bishop Stopford CE School

Course description

The course aims to make you aware of every aspect of modern day business, using examples of real business problems.

In A Level Business, you will consider a range of issues such as how a business makes its decisions, the information it needs and the constraints under which it operates. You will be able to develop a range of transferable skills which will be useful in the world of work or in higher education.

Course content

During Year 12 (AS) you will study:

  1. Planning & Financing a Business
  • Managing a Business

Entry requirements

Five GCSEs at Grade C is the minimum entry requirement, although we recommend an average of 8 Grade C GCSEs.


You will be assessed by examinations only in AS Business Studies.

Unit 1 - 1 hour 15 minutes examination (Taken in January)

Short answer questions and extended responses based on a mini case study.

Unit 2 - 1 hour 30 minutes examination (Taken in May)

Compulsory, multi- part data response questions.

Financial information

There are no additrional costs for Business Studies, apart from any visits associated with the course.

There are many opportunities for students who have studied Business Studies A Level, including a huge variety of higher education courses and employment opportunities.

Further information

Whilst all our courses are compatible with each other, the timetable may limit some combinations.

You are likely to be able to attend the Business Studies Conference in London, providing the opportunity to listen to a variety of speakers, ranging from entrepreneurs to business specialists.
