Information Technology Level 3 Cambridge Technical Diploma (OCR) at Guiseley School

Course description

This award is the equivalent of one A level and is designed to be a two year course.

It is a flexible course that allows us to adapt to the needs of the variety of students we have at Guiseley School. 

 

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs grade 4-9, this is normally expected to include Maths and English Language or Literature. 

Students will be expected to achieve at least a grade 5 in the A level subjects that they wish to study.

What are the Cambridge Technicals?

At Guiseley School you will be studying for the Technicals Level 3 Information Technology where you will need to complete 5 units.  The Technicals Level 3 Information Technology offers a specialist qualification that focuses on specific aspects of employment within the appropriate ICT sector.  This diploma takes 360 guided learning hours to complete.

Below are the 2 mandatory units all students must complete and some of optional units you may be taught:

Product Development

Project Management

Developing a Smarter Planet

Application Design

Mobile Technology

Social Media and Digital Marketing

The choice of optional units will depend on the students’ skills and interest in the current year cohort, as well as the resource availability.

 

Future opportunities

CAREER PATHWAYS

This course can lead to Higher Education in a degrees, apprenticeship or employment.  Career routes students may decide to follow include: IT Infrastructure Technician, Emerging Digital Technology Practitioner, Application Developer and Data Analyst.  

Further information

The ICT department is in a period of rapid development with substantial investment in a wide range of teaching resources, highly experienced teachers and the introduction of progressive new courses.  In the Sixth Form we have been pleased to see very creditable improvements in standards reflected in final grades.
