Electrical Installations Advanced Apprenticeship at Colchester Institute
This programme is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful electrical engineer. Learning through practical and theory sessions at the College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve an NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Building, Structures and the Environment).
The course combines practical experience gained in the workplace and theoretical skills. It includes preparing, maintaining and restoring the work site for:
- Electrical Installation
- Fault Finding and Diagnosis
- Installing Components for Electrical Installation
- Inspection and Testing
- Maintaining a Healthy and Safe Working Environment
As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills Level 2/GCSEs in English, maths and ICT.
Candidates should have a strong interest in electrical work. You will need to be dedicated and committed to your study and be responsible for your own learning. You will be required to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team and be asked to complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy. You will also be required to either pass a trade assessment, or to have achieved at least three GCSEs, or equivalent, (grades A*-C) including English and maths. Students on this course are required to be employed in a suitable work placement with an electrical company.
Employment as a registered Installation Technician.
