Course description

Below you will find some information regarding the A-Level Geography course. Please note that there are some entry requirements for this course.

Course content

This A-Level is designed to develop your understanding of the natural world, both in terms of how it works and the influence of the human race. You will cover the following:
 
At AS:
 Global challenges. This unit looks at some of the world’s most dangerous natural events such as earthquakes, and the impact of globalisation on the economy
 Geographical investigations. You will look at one physical topic such as how coastal areas are managed
 Both the above units involve an exam.
 
At A2:
 Contested planet. You explore the issues facing the world today in terms of energy, food and biodiversity
 The final unit will see you undertaking a piece of geographical research from a number of options which include tectonic activity and hazards and cold environments
 Both A2 units include an exam.

Entry requirements

You will need a minimum of five A* - C grades, including Maths and English to access this course.

Assessment

A-Level Geography includes a number of exams.

Future opportunities

Those who have undertaken this course often go on to university to study related fields such as Geography and Civil Engineering. It can also support to work in related fields such as insurance companies and local government planning departments.
