Sport BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma at Hove Park School and Sixth Form Centre

Course description

This qualification is designed to support progression to higher education, along with other appropriate BTEC Nationals or A-Levels, and is equivalent to one A-Level. There are four units, 3 of which are mandatory. These are Anatomy and Physiology, Fitness, Training and Professional Development in the Sports Industry. The fourth unit can be selected from Sports Leadership, Sports Psychology, Fitness Testing and Practical Sports Performance.

Entry requirements

5 A*-C GCSE (or equivalent) in any subject.

Assessment

The Anatomy and Physiology Unit is externally assessed through a written exam (one and a half hours), and the Training Unit is also externally assessed through a case study task set and marked by the exam board. The Professional Development and Optional Unit are internally assessed through assignments.

Future opportunities

This course supports entry to university courses such as BA (Hons) in Sport and Business Studies, BSC (Hons) in Sport Psychology, BA (Hons) in Sport and Exercise Science and onto many opportunities in the Health and Leisure industry. Examples include Coaching; Personal Training; Recreation Worker; Sports Development Officer; Sports Journalism; Outdoor Adventure Instructor; Sports Masseur; PE Teacher and Leisure Centre Management.
