Design and Technology A-Level at Freman College

Course description


A single design-and-make project, supported by a design folder. This will include a breakdown of the ‘Client’s Needs’ followed with relevant modelling and practical investigations that lead to the manufacture of a quality product that is fully functional.


A single, substantial designing and making activity worth 25% of the total grade, supported by a design folder. This follows similar stages to the AS project but the level of investigation and use of processes is much higher.

Course content

Subject offered: 3D Product Design Technology.

Entry requirements

Grade C or above in GCSE Design & Technology.



A 2-hour written examination worth 50% of the total AS marks (25% of full A-level grade) on materials, components and application of knowledge.


A 2 hour written examination worth 25% of the total A-level grade, on design and manufacture.

Future opportunities

These courses are for those who may wish to pursue a career in new product development, retail or leisure management, engineering, marketing or advertising, interior and exterior design as well as instrument manufacture and architecture. The opportunities are endless and qualified technologists and engineers are much sought after in the UK and abroad, offering careers in The Times top 100 companies.
