Art and Design (Art, Craft & Design) A Level at Portslade Aldridge Community Academy
A Level Art and Design is an exciting two year course which provides practical experience for students who have a keen interest in working in the creative industries.
It is suitable for students who intend to undertake further studies in the field of art, craft and design and for those who simply have an interest and aptitude for the subject but do not intend to take the subject beyond A Level study.
As the course progresses students will develop skills in painting, printmaking, 3-Dimensional studies, together with Mixed Media, Design and IT. Students will also become more independent and generate their own themes.
You will study one unit (project) in year one of the course. In the second year you will complete a personal study where you decide on your own theme, including an extended written piece of research and a timed exam. Critical studies are a vital part of the course. Photographers, artists and designers will be studied in depth.
Grade A or B in an Art and Design related subject.
You must be the type of student who has a real interest in many forms of Art and Design, you must be able to work independently and you are expected to spend at least 5 hours per week on independent study.
You will be assessed through tutor observation, portfolio work, research assignments and individual projects. 60% Portfolio (coursework), 40% practical exam.

A range of university and college courses are on offer at the post 18 level. There are a wide range of creative courses that would be on offer for those who would like to pursue this path. These include Fine Art, Textile Design, Print Design, Fashion courses, CAD and Photography.
