Unit 1 Change and Consolidation: USA, 1890 - 1945
Assessment is one examination which is 50% of the AS grade (25% of final A - level grade)
This unit promotes an understanding of change over time and develops in students a strong sense of historical perspective, enabling them to understand the key features of a period, its particular characteristics and the forces of change, conservatism and consolidation. Focusses on change and consolidation; how governments establish themselves and respond, with varying degrees of success.
Unit 2 Historical Issues: Periods of Change. The USA and Vietnam, 1961-1975
Assessment is one examination which is 50% of the AS grade (25% of the final A - level grade)
This unit promotes the study of significant periods of history in depth and an understanding of the complexity of the historical process, allowing students to study in detail the interrelationships between ideas, individuals, circumstances and other factors contributing to change and development. Provides an important contrast with the understanding of change and continuity in a longer period, as offered in Unit 1.
Unit 3: The State and People: Britain 1918-1964
Assessment is one examination which is 60% of the A2 grade (30% of final A - level grade)
This unit promotes an understanding of change and continuity over approximately 50 years and focusses on the relationship between the state and the people. Develops students’ understanding of how a particular issue interacted with other issues in a short period and how it changed in significance.
Unit 4 Historical Enquiry
Assessment is a 3,500 word essay, bibliography and evaluation which is 40% of the A2 grade (20% of the final A- level grade)
This unit requires students to produce a piece of coursework which tests understanding of change
over 100 years of Liverpool’s history.
