Health and Social Care - BTEC Level Three at Wigan UTC

Course description

Study BTEC Level 3 in Health & Social Care in our new Health Care Suite.

Students will gain the skills and knowledge to progress onto a career pathway in

 • Nursing or Midwifery

• Physiotherapy

• Psychology

• Occupational therapy

• Social Work

 

Students studying Health & Social Care will receive FREE Work Wear alongside a real work placement with the NHS.

 

It can be taken alongside other qualifications as part of a two year programme of learning for example;

• A-Level in Biology, which could lead to a B.Sc. (Hons) in Nursing

• BTEC National Extended Certificate in Applied Science, which could lead to a B.Sc. (Hons) in Biomedical Science or other science related degree courses.

 

 

Course content

Units involved in this course are:

Unit 1: Human Life Span Development

Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care

Unit 4: Enquiries into Current Research in Health and Social Care 

Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs

Unit 7: Principles of Safe Practice in Health and Social Care

Unit 8: Promoting Public Health

Optional Units: These include units such as Nutritional Health and a variety of others.

Entry requirements

BTEC courses

At least 5 at grades   A*-C   Including English & Maths

At least 5 at grades   9-4     Including English & Maths

 

A Levels

Grade 6 or above in the subject required to study

Assessment

There are two written examinations, one covering Unit 1 and the other Unit 2.

Units 5, 7, and the optional units are assessed by assignments.

Unit 4 is assessed by being given a set task to complete utilising investigative techniques.

Financial information

Funded if aged 16-19.

This course studied with A Level in Biology could lead to a BSc (Hons) in Nursing.

This course studied with a BTEC National Diploma in Applied Science could lead to a BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science or other science related degree courses.
