Engineering - Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Engineering at Wakefield College
This Diploma is designed to help you gain a wide range of technical skills and knowledge which will enable you to progress to the Extended Diploma and prepare you for a career in either Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering.
For this Diploma you will study the following topics, which will prepare you for specialisation in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering if you progress to Extended Diploma:
Health & Safety
Mechanical Principles and Applications
Electrical and Electronic Principles
Electro Pneumatic and Hydraulic Systems
Principles and Application of Electronic Devices
Maths and English are key elements of any full-time programme of study in College. If you do not already have a GCSE at grade A*-C (or new grade 9-4) in these subjects, you will need to attend sessions allocated on your timetable. These are varied and designed to cater for all ability levels. You will receive advice and guidance regarding the correct level for you.
Skills in Maths and English will support your full-time course, assisting you with assignment writing, research, job applications, presentations, managing your own finances and interpretation of data, to mention just a few. They will also help you in the future. Most employers are looking for ability in these areas and the majority of university courses require you to have Maths and English GCSEs at A*-C (or new grade 9-4). This is why the development of Maths and English is so important, whatever your field of study.
5 GCSEs at A*-C (or new grade 9-4) including English (minimum grade 4) and Maths (minimum grade 5)
Each unit is assessed by assignments and/or tests.
Tuition and certification are free if you are aged 16-18 years old. Related additional costs may include materials, equipment, visits, residential etc. which are payable by all students.
Any student entered/registered with an Awarding Body who has been given free entry and then withdraws or is withdrawn by a tutor will incur the certification fee associated with the course. Any re-sit examination will incur a cost.

Progress to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering.
Completion of this course will enable you to apply for an Advanced Apprenticeship. You could also apply for a wide range of highly skilled jobs as a technician engineer in electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering or in the manufacturing industry.
