Criminology EDUQAS Level 3 Diploma at Brompton Academy

Course description

Students will gain an understanding of the criminal justice system from the moment a crime has been identified to the verdict.  They will also develop the skills needed to examine information in order to review the justice system of verdicts in criminal cases.  Students will apply their understanding of the awareness of criminality, criminology theories and process of bringing an accused to court in order to evaluate the effectiveness of social control to deliver criminal justice policy.

Entry requirements

Students must achieve at least 5 A* - E grades (9-3 grade in English and Maths) in GCSE subjects.  They also need Grade 4 in GCSE English or grade C in Sociology, Psychology or Law.

Assessment

Year One

Unit 1 - Changing Awareness of Crime - Internally assessed controlled assessment (50%).  Unit 2 - Criminolgy Theories - Externally assessed examination (50%).

Year Two

Unit 3 - Crime Scene to Courtroom - Internally assessed controlled assessments (25%).  Unit 4 - Crime and Punishment - Externally assessed examination (25%).

Future opportunities

Completition of the Diploma qualification will give between 16 and 56 UCAS points, to be used to gain entry onto a degree course or entry into the workplace.
