ICT Practitioners - BTEC First Diploma at Grange Technology College
BTEC qualifications are designed to provide specialist work-related qualifications. The BTEC First Diploma for ICT Practitioners will equip you with the understanding, skills and knowledge needed as a preparation for entering employment in the ICT sector or moving onto further studies.

The course consists of two core units plus 4 specialist units selected by the college. You will receive a broad introduction to ICT and its uses in the world of work in addition to extending software skills developed at Key Stage 3. Achievement of the BTEC First Diploma is equivalent to 4 GCSEs graded A*-CThere are two core units you will study:
- Using ICT to Present Information helps you to learn about different document types. You will present accessible information for the expected audience.Introduction to Computer Systems, studies different types of computers, users and the typical tasks they perform. You will learn how to select the most appropriate hardware and software for a given user. The four specialist units taught are dependent on staffing and the interests of the group. At the moment the following are studied:
- Website Development : understand purposes of websites and the laws and guidelines that concern their development and to design and create a multiple page website.
- Customising software: You will customise software to create templates, macros and shortcuts in application packages.
- Database and Spreadsheet Software : You will design and create a database and spreadsheet to meet user needs.ICT Graphics: You will learn how to use a variety of different software applications to create and modify graphic images, both pictures and diagrams.
An interest in extending the skills developed at Key Stage 3 and learning more about the application of ICT in the world of work to be successful in this course. As the course is 100% coursework it is essential to be organised and manage your time effectively. You also need a standard of literacy and numeracy which allows you to access a level 2 course.
This course consists of 100% coursework and therefore is demanding throughout the year; deadlines must be kept and to do this you need to be organised and manage your time well.
This course provides a sound basis for progression to a full range of A level courses but especially in the ICT sector.
As BTEC is highly recognised by employers this course can take you straight into employment.
