English Literature at Ormiston Shelfield Community Academy

Course description

What the subject is about: The course builds on the skills acquired in GCSE English Literature. The course requires a study of literature in English covering all three genre, Prose, Poetry and Drama, from the age of Chaucer to Modern Times. The aims of the course are to encourage individuals to develop an interest and enjoyment in literacy studies through reading widely, critically and independently. The subject is designed to stretch a student's critical faculties, students will gain an appreciation of their historical and literary heritage.

    •  We are the only secondary school in the Black Country to hold FA Centre status.  Students who attend the Football Academy will combine guided learning hours in the Football Academy alongside their Sixth Form subjects.  There is also the opportunity for students to stay on in Year 14 to follow our Apprenticeship Programme or to take advantage of the links we have with football coaching camps in the USA or our links with the University of Worcester to access higher education.
