History AS/A Level at The Maelor School

Course description

Everything has a history. History is all around us. The nature of historical evidence is that much of it is unreliable, incomplete or even contradictory. The job of the historian is to seek out the truth, making judgements about the validity of evidence and the correctness of opinion. History therefore develops vital skills which is why it is so well-regarded as a qualification.

During the History course you will study Britain c.1780-1180 and the social and political crises arising during the Industrial Revolution, and the German Reformation c.1500-1555. The course demands a high level of literacy and you will further develop your communication skills during your study.

History is a highly-regarded subject for many university courses. It is useful for law, journalism, politics and PPE as well as other humanities subjects. Historians with  good grades are very sought after by top universities.
