Accounting A Level at Itchen College

Course description

Accounting is becoming a very popular course among students who are looking to go straight into employment. Many of our accounting students are hired by accounting firms upon completing their A Levels.

This course is for you if...

...you enjoy problem-solving.

...you like working with numbers.

...you are interested in a career in accounting or a related subject.

Course content

This course is all about recording, interpreting and evaluating the financial performance of business. The types of topics which are covered include:

  • Double-entry bookkeeping
  • Final accounts

The second year of the course develops the above themes in more depth and also introduces new concepts such as incomplete records, partnership accounts and capital investment appraisal.

Entry requirements

Grades 9-6 in English and Maths and three or more GCSEs at grades A*-C. 

Additional guidance is available at interview.

100% exam

Future opportunities

This course is very useful (although not essential) preparation for anyone considering a higher education course in Accounting, Business Studies or Management. Students who enjoy the course may consider careers in Accountancy, Finance and Banking.

Further information

Students who are part of the Business learning area have the opportunity to take part in local work placements, compete in national competitions, visit local schools to do presentations and workshops, as well as attend a variety of other educational visits.
