Performing Arts (Acting) Extended Diploma Level 3 at York College

Course description

You will be taught by theatre and industry trained professionals: directors, actors, voice coaches, dancers, choreographers, singers and musicians who work alongside students not only on professionally produced shows and performances but also offering first hand, vocational knowledge of the industry and its demands.

You will have the opportunity to learn and perform across a wide range of projects from full-scale theatre productions, touring shows and workshop performances to film, TV and radio acting.

Entry requirements

5 GCSEs at grade C or above, including English (grade 4) and preferably Drama or a Level 2 Diploma in Performing Arts or related subject at Merit grade and GCSE English grade C (grade 4).
Please note for entry onto the course you will need to pass a practical audition.


Over the two years of the course you will perform and be assessed on a wide range of projects. At present approximately 60 per cent of the course is of a practical, hands-on nature with 40 per cent being academic/research. There will be a variety of performance/presentations throughout the two years, with major productions at the end of each year.

Financial information

A materials contribution of £65 applies to this course. We also have trips to theatres and other venues. These are priced on an individual basis.

Past students have been awarded places at all of the 22 accredited UK Drama schools and top universities specialising in Theatre and Acting with many now working professionally in Theatre, the West End, Film, TV and allied industries. This is the ideal intermediate next step in pursuing your career in the performing arts.
