BTEC Sport - Single Award at Broadway Academy
Year on year the sport and active leisure sector outperforms the rest of the UK economy; this has been a trend since the end of the economic recession of the late 1990s, and researchers predict this will continue to be the case for years to come, long after the sports legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympics Games.
The course is taught over two years and is 50% externally assessed through two written examinations and 50% internally assessed through coursework in the form of various assignments.
The qualifications are graded at pass, merit or distinction level and these grades are broadly the same as a grade E, C or A at ‘A’ level. The qualification is the equivalent to one ‘A’ Level.
The four units to be studied during the course are:
Unit 1* (Year 12): Anatomy and Physiology (external examination)
- 2* (Year 12): Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (external written task)
Unit 3* (Year 13): Professional Development in the Sports Industry
Unit 5 (Year 13): Application of fitness testing
· Grade C in English Language and Maths (desirable)
· Grade C or above in Biology
Assessment is ongoing throughout the year and is coursework based.
This requires you to be be well organised and be able to handle a significant amount of independent study.
You will also get real life work experience with industry recognised leaders. These may be specific to your chosen sport or reflect the whole sports industry. Examples include; Aston Villa. FA’s Respect organisation. Adventure plus, Lawn tennis association (Wimbledon), David Lloyd Leisure Centres
Broadway School Sixth Form will also give you practical sport qualifications that include:
Level 2 Sports Leadership (Year 12)
Level 3 Sports Leadership (Year 13)
- of Edinburgh Award (Silver– Year 12/13)
